Garden Lighting – Add A Romantic Ambiance To Your Evening Garden

Outdoor garden lighting is one of the best ways to showcase your beautiful home and landscaping. But now that you’ve decided to add outdoor lights to your home, are you having some difficulty figuring out what type to buy? Are you unsure of where to place your new lights? Well, stop distressing! Take a moment while we walk you through the steps of adding outdoor lighting to your home.

Step one in choosing garden lights is to decide on the areas that you want lit. Is it a small open area? Or is it a larger, more complicated area that requires specific lighting? If you are working with an open space, you will benefit the most from using one or two centrally located, post-mounted lights with broad reach.

If you are lighting a large area in or around a garden or where trees are present, you may want to consider using several smaller lights. These lights can be placed along a path for garden path lighting, beside a fence or within a garden to either illuminate the direction of a walkway or call attention to your beautiful plants. Once you have figured out where you need outdoor landscape lighting, you may move onto the next step.

Outdoor lighting is then chosen based upon your preference of power source: do you want lights that are connected to an electrical outlet, or would you prefer solar powered lights? Both types have their advantages and disadvantages.

Lights that are connected to an outlet are the most common, but obviously they have cords that must either be run along poles or underground. This can be difficult for some people to accommodate and many people do not like having wires visible in their yard.

Solar Or Electric Lights, Manual Switches Or Automatic Timers?

Solar outdoor lighting does not have wires, as it works on a battery that is charged during the day by solar panels. Unfortunately, solar powered lights are more costly and the battery will eventually degrade and need to be replaced. Both types are effective however, and will light your home equally well.

The next step in choosing outdoor lighting is deciding on how convenient you want your lights to be. Do you want to manually switch your lights on and off, or do you want your lighting to be automatic? People most commonly choose automatic lights, or dawn to dusk lights as they are frequently called. These lights will turn themselves on when it starts to get dark and off at dawn. This leaves one less thing you need to worry about! You also have the choice of motion-activated lights, which are generally chosen as a security feature.  Outdoor security lighting is a very popular purchase at online stores.

Lastly, choose outdoor lighting that is appealing to you. Purchase lights that match the look and style of your home, but that don’t stand out or appear obtrusive. Be sure to check online garden stores for the best selection and prices available anywhere on landscape lights. And remember that lights are there to accent other things like gardens or trees and are not meant to stand out.

Additionally, be creative and have fun! You’ll see that your home will instantly look better with the addition of your new outdoor lights.
