Potting Storage and Garden Sheds – One Building For Multiple Purposes

If you have a smaller backyard, or simply do not want to crowd your lawn with multiple buildings, consider using just one building for potting storage and garden sheds. Many of you may assume that your potting shed needs to be a separate building from your garden shed. This can be the case and many of people do prefer to keep their spaces separate.

However, having one single potting storage and garden shed will save you time, money and create a single lovely space in which you can grow your seedlings and store your lawnmower! How convenient!

Potting and storage sheds can look like any other type of shed. Yours may be one that was built ages ago by the previous owner of your home, or it could be a prefab garden shed that you put together one Saturday afternoon. Whatever it looks like, your back yard potting and storage shed can be a single, charming addition to your home.

The Potting And Storage Shed Necessities

If the idea of having one outdoor shed for all your potting and gardening needs is an attractive one to you, then there are a few things you should be mindful of. First, remember that you’ll need good lighting. Whether it’s from some gorgeous windows or a handy fluorescent light, keep in mind that a pot filled with seedlings isn’t always the easiest thing to work with if there is not adequate lighting.

Another important element for an outside shed that is going to be used for potting and storage is a potting bench. Have one built (or build one yourself) that is the correct height for you, so that you’ll be comfortable when working with your seedlings and soil. Also, storage space is absolutely essential in a potting and storage shed. It’s just too easy to get unorganized and messy when a single space is being used for multiple purposes.

A great idea is to have shelving installed on which you can store pots and small tools and have hooks hung on the walls where you can hang your shovels, rakes and hoes. Any other materials that you find useful in your potting shed should be stored in easy-to-find places and things you use all the time should be kept at arm’s reach.

You really don’t have to have more than one storage building in your backyard. More and more, people are beginning to use their sheds as potting and storage places so that they can clear more space in their yards for children’s play areas, pools, hot tubs and patios. As long you’re organized and can work in fairly crowded spaces, it’s easy and convenient to combine potting sheds and storage sheds into one structure for all your gardening needs.
