Copper weather vanes saturate the garden ornament market, but careful attention to detail will illustrate that they are not all made the same way, or with the same finesse. A weather vane can be made of virtually any material; however, copper continues to remain one of the most popular choices.

When exposed to city air, copper oxidizes more quickly, as opposed to cleaner country air which causes a much slower oxidization process. The process of copper changing from its shiny bronze color to a more antique looking shade of green is called patina.
