Custom Weather Vanes – A Distinctive Express Of Yourself

One way in which some individuals choose to add a personal touch to their homes is by adding custom weather vanes. Having a custom weather vane is more popular in some areas as opposed to others, but there is no reason why just about anyone can’t have a customized weathervane that expresses a little bit of who they are.

Art comes in many forms and most individuals will agree that it is the easiest way to express your ideas, beliefs and personality. Whether it is paint on a canvass, graffiti, or sculptures, people are constantly looking for ways to add a distinctive, expressive note to their personal items. A custom weathervane is a perfect way to show off your personal style!

Weather vanes provide an elegant way for homeowners to add a touch of personal expression to their homes and some business owners have decided that a customized wind instrument can add a touch of whimsy, or distinction to their business as well. Whether it is a funky design idea, a family emblem, a sport theme, or a design of your own, there are some very skilled craftsmen out there who can take your ideas and make them come to life.

While personalized weathervanes are decorative in many senses, they are still made with function in mind. A reputable weather vane manufacturer will ensure that the custom design of your weather vane remains true to how weather vanes have always been designed and made. The designer must take your idea and ensure that the ornament has equal mass, but unequal area on either side of the centre, in order for the weather vane to point accurately in the wind’s direction. However, if you’re someone who collects weathervanes as a hobby, then perhaps the function of the weather vane is of little importance to you.

The Custom-Made Weather Vane – The Ins And Outs

The majority of made to order weathervanes are made from bronze, copper, or other durable metals. There are, however, some personalized weather vanes made of wood, but the metals definitely make up the mass of the weathervanes you will out there.

There are a variety of different styles when it comes to crafting a personalized weather vane. One type of design is the full-bodied weathervane, whereby they are carefully hand formed out of sheet copper using traditional, old school techniques and processes. Coppersmiths are experts at full-bodied models of anything made by man, or nature and you can rest assured that whatever your idea is, a coppersmith can make it come to life using this time-tested method.

Once the shape of the weather vane is decided upon, a solid brass shaft with a stainless steel ball bearing is used for smooth movement. The shaft then becomes enclosed by copper tubing which prevents water infiltration. Once the weather vane is made, it is then slid onto the shaft and is secured by a soldered copper coupling. This entire process produces the beautiful end product.

Since the conception of weathervanes, designers have come up with virtually any and every style imaginable. Many of the antique weather vanes are actually quite valuable, and other weather vanes have the potential to gain value over time. Custom made weathervanes can showcase your home, your style, your personality, your business, or just about anything you want! By adding a date, time, name, or short message, you can add some sentimentality to your custom weathercock and then sit back and watch as the wind makes it come alive.
