Feb 15, 2005 Pole Mounted Weather Vanes – A Spin On The Traditional
Pole mounted weather vanes are whimsical alternatives to traditional weathervanes that can be mounted in gardens and on patios, giving individuals a spin on the traditional rooftop mounted weather vane. When it comes to selecting a weather vane you will quickly learn that there are a variety of shapes, styles, sizes and finishes to choose from. Today, a weather vane can be used to decorate virtually anything. Whether they are adorning the rooftop, or adding beauty to the garden, individuals have discovered that weather vanes can serve a purpose far greater than that which they were originally intended for. A pole mounted weather vane is a wonderful alternative for people who enjoy a closer view of their weathervane, as when they're on your roof it's hard to see them when you're sitting inside your kitchen! A weather vanes that are mounted on poles are quite simple in concept. They still work the same way as the more traditional weather vane, but instead of being mounted to a rooftop, they are mounted to a pole that is then stuck into the ground, or a sturdy flower pot, or flower bed. It is important that you ensure the base of your weather vane is planted firmly in the ground because the weight of the rod can cause it to lean. Furthermore, you don’t want the pole to come loose and cause the weather vane to fall under stormy, or snowy weather conditions. Mounted weather vanes can be made from a variety of different materials. The more popular choices are aluminum, steel and copper, but you can opt for a custom made wood weather vane if you so choose. The reason why most craftsmen make the stick mount weather vanes in aluminum, steel, or copper is because of their ability to withstand the outdoor elements, better than some of the other materials. However, depending on where you live, weather may not be that great a factor in your decision. Which To Choose? – Pole Mounted Or Rooftop Mounted?Realistically, the main difference between weather or not you decide to go with a pole mounted or rooftop mounted weather vane is preference. As with anything, there are advantages and disadvantages to both styles. If you have recently put a new roof on your house, you may not want to mount anything on it; therefore, a weather vane that you can stick in the ground anywhere you choose is perhaps a more appealing option. Another reason some individuals opt for a pole mounted version of the weathervane is because they are easier to install and they allow more flexibility. You don’t have to worry about climbing up onto the roof to attach it, as it can be easily mounted anywhere on the ground. The rod base is also much easier to view and enjoy because you can put them virtually anywhere in your garden or around your grounds. In the end, whether you decide to go the traditional route with a rooftop mount, or the more contemporary route with the pole mount, you’ll be sure to enjoy your weather vane and so will everyone that sees it.
