Nov 23, 2004 Blue Bird House Plans – How To House These Docile, Happy Birds
Blue bird house plans are easy to come by and will provide you and your family with endless fun and pleasure. They’re simple to build and patterns and blueprints are available for free, right off the internet! Plus, blue birds are so prominent in North America that it’s almost impossible not to attract them with your new blue bird house. A blue bird house plan generally follows one of two main house designs. When you’re searching for a blueprint, look for either the traditional square house, or the Peterson bluebird house that has a steeply sloped roof and floor. Both one will accommodate blue birds and they tend not to prefer one design over the other. Your bluebird house plans should not include perches, as blue birds do not need or like them. Also, if you plan to erect several houses, be sure to space them about 100 feet apart and check inside of them regularly to make sure that other birds, such as House Sparrows or Chickadees have not moved in. If I Build It, Will They Come?Bluebirds are known as a cavity dwelling bird. They use existing holes in trees, sometimes made by woodpeckers or other species of birds. Unfortunately, in recent years forested habitats have been destroyed, leaving the poor blue birds with few places to nest. This has led to a decline in the bluebird population all across North America. Thus, bluebird houses have been built throughout the continent to replace the natural cavities once occupied by the lovely bluebird. Bluebirds have happily embraced their new, man-made homes, many of which you can see situated along public walking trails, in gold courses and parks. As mentioned previously, bluebirds can be found all throughout North America. There are three species that, depending on where you live, you might see in your backyard. There is the Eastern Bluebird, found in Eastern parts of the continent and in Mexico; the Western Bluebird, found in Western United States, Southwestern Canada, and Mexico; and the Mountain Bluebird, found in the high prairies, mountain areas of Western North America, and from Alaska through to Mexico. All species of bluebirds are characterized by their beautiful blue coloring. You will have a wonderful time building a bluebird house, using blue birdhouse plans or patterns. It’s a fun, easy and economical project, as you can easily download plans off the internet! Your local gardening or specialty bird store will also be able to provide you with a blue print if you cannot find one you like online. Either way, once you build and erect your new bluebird house, you’ll be helping a beautiful, charming bird find a home and a place to nest.
