Wren Birdhouse – Invite Melodious Song and Busy Chatter

A wren birdhouse is often more successful if several of them are placed in one vicinity. This is because in the spring, when wrens come to roost, the males will construct about a dozen nests in the territory they have selected as theirs. Later, when the females arrive, the male will court the female by taking her to all his nests and presenting her with his work. She will then select one of these roosting spots and only then will they mate. Thus, if you want wrens to roost in your birdhouse, you should try to erect several of them so that the male will have plenty of places to build nests before the female arrives.

Your wren birdhouse is also more likely to have frequent visitors if you live in a residential area that is near a park, farmland or woodland. Wrens are insect eaters so areas that provide them with caterpillars, grasshoppers, spiders, and snails are their most favorable visiting spots. What’s more, wrens build their nests from materials such as grass, plants, leaves, feathers, and twigs, so placing their bird houses in that are regions abundant with trees and plants are preferable.
