Holiday Garden Flags – A Festive Way To Kick Off The Season

Today's homeowners are whole heartedly displaying holiday garden flags, lights, and other decorative accessories to welcome the next holiday season. It’s easy to tell when the next big holiday is approaching. A stroll through any mall, or a quick stop at a grocery store and you will be bombarded with holiday hoopla, even if it’s three months too early. The biggest change in current years though is that it’s not just the stores eagerly anticipating the next commercial holiday anymore, homeowners are definitely jumping on the bandwagon too!

What I like about the holiday garden flag is that it acts as a subtle reminder of the encroaching holiday season. It’s not necessarily loud, or in your face, and it can be displayed in a variety of places from your garden, backyard, porch, or window. It’s more of an addition to the home, rather than something that is season specific such as Christmas lights, and can be changed according to the holiday.

There are garden banners for every season and there are a hundreds of different variations on the same image. Different techniques and appliqués make festive flags unique and personal. There are a number of different styles and you can easily find one that most suits your personality and décor preferences.

The Many Faces Of A Flag – Appliqués, Silk And More

Appliqué flags come in a variety of styles. They come in 3-D, sculpted edges, padded, and with double stitching and fabric to add dimension and fullness to the image. Many of the flags are interpretations of artwork; therefore they are made to look as realistic as possible. Furthermore, many of the banners are double sided allowing you to enjoy the artwork from both sides and some are interactive so that family members can count down the days to a specific holiday.

Another technique used to make seasonal flags is the silk reflection method that is created using two pieces of fabric for a true double sided effect. The silk reflection method uses a four color dye process in order to capture specific details of the painting being used as the inspiration for the flag. The finishing touches include a fabric border that frames the image, and some sculpting to add emphasis to the flag.

Of course, there is no end to what you can do with silk reflections and appliqués on decorative flags. It is entirely possible to have a silk reflection in conjunction with some appliqué around the flag border. Of course, depending on how intricate the detailing, the prices are sure to go up, but in the end you will have a very beautiful piece of artwork to display either inside, or outside.
